Already have a modem you love? Keep it. This guide walks you through connecting and configuring your own modem on your Be Connect Fibre, VDSL or ADSL broadband connection.
A quick checklist to make sure your own modem will work on the Be Connect network before you begin.
For Fibre, your modem (router) must have a WAN or Internet Ethernet port to connect to the ONT box on your wall. A modem with a WiFi 6 router built in gives you the best speeds.
For a copper connection, your modem needs a built-in DSL modem with a DSL/phone port, and must support the VDSL2 or ADSL2+ standard your line uses.
You’ll enter a few network settings in your modem’s admin panel. If that’s not for you, grab a pre-configured Be Connect modem and we’ll handle everything.
Choose your connection type below for the physical setup steps and the exact network settings to enter.
Place your modem near the ONT box, connect it to power and switch it on.
Run an Ethernet cable from your modem’s WAN/Internet port to the live port on the ONT.
Log in to your modem and apply the settings in the table below, then save.
Join by WiFi or Ethernet and load a website to confirm you’re online.
| Connection type | DHCP / Dynamic IP (IPoE) |
| VLAN tagging | 10 (Tagged) |
| Username / Password | Not required |
| MTU | 1500 |
| IPv6 | Enabled (DHCPv6 / SLAAC) |
| PPP protocol | PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) |
| Encapsulation | 802.1Q (VLAN tagging) |
| VLAN tag ID | 10 |
| MTU | 1492 |
| Username | your Be Connect broadband username |
| Password | your Be Connect broadband password |
Place your modem near a working phone jack-point, connect power and switch it on.
Plug a DSL/phone cable from your modem’s DSL port into the jack-point (use a splitter/filter if needed).
Log in to your modem and apply the VDSL settings below, then save.
Allow a minute to sync, then join and load a website to confirm you’re online.

First check your cabling looks like the diagram below, then pick your modem brand and model for a quick setup guide.
Filter by connection type and brand, then pick your model:
Most modern modems will, as long as they have a WAN/Internet Ethernet port to plug into the ONT. Very old modems that only have a DSL port won’t work on Fibre — they’re for copper (VDSL/ADSL) connections only.
For Fibre, usually no — the connection authenticates automatically. For VDSL and ADSL you’ll need your Be Connect broadband username and password. If you don’t have them handy, call us on 0800 233 444.
Double-check the connection type and (for VDSL) the VLAN ID, then reboot the modem and give it a minute to sync. Still stuck? Our support team can confirm the exact settings for your line — call 0800 233 444 or contact us.
Yes. Once your modem is online you can add mesh units or WiFi extenders to widen coverage — just follow the manufacturer’s pairing instructions.
If you’d rather not configure anything, a Be Connect modem arrives pre-configured — plug it in and you’re online, with full support if anything goes wrong. See our broadband plans or call 0800 233 444.
